shabbatons

Bring Batya to your community for a Shabbat filled with spirited prayer and song.

Batya will work with you to create a Shabbaton experience that is meaningful for you and your community. Batya will draw from a combinationn of their offerings, including: communal song, prayer, ritual, workshops & participatory concerts, to create a connective experience with your community.

communal song

Communal singing reminds us that we are not alone, and that our individual voice is both uniquely essential and a part of the greater collective. Batya strives to create empowered singing spaces that invite people into their own voice through the practices of grounding and authentic expression. Holding the knowledge that communal song can serve to heal our relationship with our tradition, our selves, and our communities, Batya works with communities to provide support within the vulnerable practice of communal singing.

prayer & ritual

Batya is an experienced Ashkenazi prayer and ritual leader who works to make traditional Jewish prayer and ritual experiences inclusive and accessible to people from a wide range of backgrounds. Batya leads prayer that draws deep from the well of generations of tradition, while uplifting authentic expression and the voice of the kahal (collective or congregation). Batya has led deeply rooted, creative, and liturgically traditional prayer experiences in many spaces including Linke Fligl, Isabella Freedman, Hadar’s Rising Song Institute, and The New Synagogue Project.

Batya offers workshops that draw on themes of cultivating empowered singing space, cultural reclamation of Jewish song and prayer practices, the power of the collective voice, skills for songleading, and leading song in prayer. Some past workshops include:

  • Calling in our Prayers Through Song

  • Skills for Songleading

  • Birkat Kohanim: A Channel of Blessing

  • Inhabiting a Song

  • Everyone is a Teacher, Everyone is a Learner: Building Co-Created Singing Spaces

concerts

Batya provides participatory concerts that engage the hearts and voices of the people in the room.

They perform a combination of their original music and older Jewish melodies. Batya sings songs based in liturgy, nigun (wordless melody), and heart-centered english words.

Batya often collaborates with other musicians and would love to come to your community to sing with you!

Batya provided grounded, soulful, and connected leadership that led to a transformative High Holy Day experience for our community. They lead song and prayer with a big, open heart, humility, power, and generosity while being deeply attuned to the souls and sounds of everyone in the room.
